THE WORST THING MY KID EVER DID...
Celebrating parenting nightmares, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, A new LGBTQ family TV show and gold stars to The Co-Op
How was your Halloween? Did you dress your new baby up as a pumpkin? Has your 5-year-old insisted on wearing her cute cat costume for the past two weeks only to suddenly refuse to wear it on actual Halloween? Do you have a teenager who debuted their first drag? Did you dress up as a Smurf to impress your kids and did they scream in genuine terror at the site of your blue face (Stu?). I managed to get away with a nod to the season (a sparkly witch’s hat) rather than going full-on freaky but I was very impressed with the parents who really understood the assignment at E’s Halloween school disco - special mention should go to the head teacher who spent the night in an inflatable T-Rex suit. I actually had THE BEST idea for a couples’ costume last night but it would have taken way to much effort to execute. You’ll only get the reference if you’ve listened to Taylor Swift’s new album: one of you is a sexy baby and the other is a monster on the hill.
COSTUME PARTY!
As if you needed another reason to believe that LGBTQ people make the world’s best parents: Here are some of my favourite queer family Halloween costumes. It’s the ‘Porridge’ Dad for me.
PARENTING NIGHTMARES!
Now, before we put spooky season behind us all together and transition seamlessly into Christmas (send help!) I asked Gay To Ze readers to share their parenting nightmares with me, and here are some of my favourites. This delicious helping of schadenfreude which includes emergency poops in kebab boxes, Level 10 destruction at a toy shop, being shamed on TikTok by a sassy teen and removing a soggy toddler from a carp pond is available to paying subscribers only. Also this week, our paid-up subscribers will get a round up of news stories relevant to the LGBTQ parenting experience and our top cultural picks of the week. You can sign up here
