Hi Friends,
Hope those of us in the UK have been enjoying this sunny and unprecedented Thursday bank holiday. As a freelancer and a parent, it makes absolutely no difference to my life, but I get that if you go to an office every day it’s a big deal to catch a break. So yas kween etc etc.
Side bar: I’ve noticed people referring to it as the “Platty Joobs”. Is this ironic? Is this ok? Are we all going a little bit *insert melting face emoji*? It reminds me of when people started first saying “holibobs” and I was equally unsure of its tonal intentions and then I just started saying it. See also “the panny D” (pandemic). Aware I may be losing some US readers here - all you need to know is that we are the nation that also officially voted to name a £200 million polar scientific research ship “Boaty Mc Boatface”.
Anyhoooo.
The reason I’m emailing when we’re all OOO or ON ANNUAL LEAVE (which is a phrase I will never not find weirdly aggressive and unnecessarily official), is that I have some Gay to Ze news.
Firstly, you’re all invited to an LGBTQ Parent and kid meet up in East London on Sunday. So leave the Platty Joobs street parties to the local Karen contingent and come along. (I am actually going to a street party afterwards so no shade to Karen).
Here are the details:
When: Sunday 5th June
What time: 10am
Where: Patchworks Leyton, 258 Church Road
Why: Meet other LGBTQIA+ families and enjoy a reading of my picture book My Magic Family and get your hands on a signed copy
Follow: @east_london_lgbtqi_parents
And secondly, I wanted to let you know that the weekly Sunday missive will now be going to paid subscribers only. So if you enjoy a weekly romp through the world of LGBTQ parenting, our round up of news stories, our heroes and villains of the week and our recommendations for things to read, watch, see, hear and events like the one above please do sign up.
It’s just £50 a year which is £4ish a month. The reason we are doing this is that it takes a lot of work to write the newsletter each week and it’s just not sustainable if we aren’t covering our costs. We also have big plans to expand - launch regular informative webinars with parenting experts and adoption / fostering / fertility masterclasses etc. We really hope you’ll sign up to support us.
If you have any questions please drop us an email lotteandstu@gmail.com
Here’s where you can upgrade your subscription
Thanks and happy holibobs x
